Education: Iowa State University

Dr. Blackstone grew up on a farm in rural Western Nebraska surrounded by livestock and pets.  At 12 years old, she decided she wanted to become a veterinarian.

Education: Oregon State University

Dr. Rothman is a Colorado native who grew up nearby in Littleton, CO.  She attended college at Colorado State University for undergraduate school, and received her degree in veterinary medicine from Oregon State University. She was happy to return to Colorado after vet school, and completed a one year rotating internship in small animal emergency and specialty medicine at Alameda East Veterinary Hospital. She then worked for a few years in the Denver area as an emergency veterinarian, as well as with a non-profit general practice clinic before joining the team at Caring Hands in 2014.

Education: University of Pennsylvania 

Dr. Micaela Rosenthal was born and raised in Santa Monica, California. Dr. Rosenthal studied business and art history at Vanderbilt University.

Education: Western University of Health Sciences

Dr. Battles was born and raised in St. Paul Minnesota. There he enjoyed playing soccer, swimming at his local lake, and volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. He grew up with dogs, cats, hamsters, snakes, birds, and a snail.

Education: Colorado State University

Dr. Rhonda Appling was born and raised in Carlsbad, NM.  Her love and compassion towards animals developed at a very young age from the many pets that left their paw prints on her heart.  She soon realized that animal health was her true passion.  Rhonda moved to attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where she earned her Bachelor's degree in Animal Science.  She then moved from Indiana to Colorado, where she earned her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University.

Education: Ross University

Dr. Leanne Ruoff grew up in New Jersey.  While New Jersey is where she spent most of her time, she also spent a lot of time at her family's lake house in upstate New York where she skied, snowmobiled, hiked and spent time at the campfire.  Leanne grew up with horses and a house full of animals, including dogs, cats, ferrets, parakeets, chinchillas, and reptiles.  Leanne always found stray animals as a kid and took them to a vet or cared for them herself until they were either kept or re-homed.  Leanne came from a family of human medical doctors, so she always had an interest in medicine, but also loved animals, so she knew veterinary medicine was the place for her.

Dr. Dunn grew up in Maryland, where she spent most of her time outdoors fishing, riding horses, boating, kayaking, and playing volleyball. At a young age, she became enamored with animals. After breeding her two golden retrievers and rescuing her cat from a marsh nearby her childhood home, she knew she wanted to devote her life and career to veterinary medicine.

Education: Colorado State University

Originally from Arizona, Dr. Schneider fell in love with Colorado after attending Colorado State University veterinary school. The state and culture floored him. He, unfortunately, had to go back to Arizona to pay off the state for helping him with the cost school. While there, he became a part owner of a practice and started a family. 

Education: Ross University

Dr. Khorsand grew up in Illinois where he spent most of his time outdoors fishing, boating, and hanging out with friends.  He grew up with Golden Retrievers, hamsters, gerbils, and lizards.  He always seemed to find and take animals that were dumped outside his neighborhood, which included a farm duck, cat and Saint Bernard.

Dr. Christina Copple is a native of North Carolina where she lived in Raleigh for the last 10 years. There, she attended North Carolina State University for her undergraduate and veterinary degrees.

Dr. Katie Tucker-Mohl received her veterinary degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2007.  Following graduation, she completed a one year internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital.  She spent the next seven years working as an emergency veterinarian at Wheat Ridge, during which time she cultivated an interest in radiology.  

Karen Sanderson, DVM
Diplomate ACVIM Cardiology

Dr. Karen Sanderson is board certified in Cardiology as a Diplomate of the AmericanCollege of Veterinary Internal Medicine. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from ColoradoStateUniversity in 1999 followed by an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at the AtlanticVeterinaryCollege on Prince Edward Island in Canada. She went on to pursue residency training in Cardiology at the University of California at Davis and became a board certified cardiologist in 2003.
